These next pix depict the Upper Putangirua Pinnacles Loop route which travels above the Pinnacles Gully from the View Platform, then loops around to the view-packed ridge to the west of the Pinnacles before descending to the Te Kopi Lodge where you can then take a quick walk on the road back to the main Putangirua carpark.

This longer loop route is DIVINE!  One of my favorite loops anywhere on the North Island.  To get the best out of it you should go counter-clockwise and head up the streambed first, all the way up the Pinnacles eroded gully, then take the signed steep track up to the View Platform….then continue onwards upwards a short bit until you see the Te Kopi Jct signs where you’ll take a left to follow Doc signs along thee next ridge and then down to Te Kopi.

My photos of this loop have been placed on GoogEarth.

Te kopi was my Grandfathers Farm from 1915 – 1930, my father and his sister were born here. Grandfather built the te kopi homestead that stands there today.
